Privacy Policy for DNS Lookup Advanced

DNS Lookup Advanced (the “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) lets you look up DNS records, compare public DNS resolvers, save favorites and recent lookups, and share lookup results. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App.

Information the App Handles

DNS lookup information

When you run a lookup, the App sends the domain name or IP address you enter, the DNS record type you select, and a DNSSEC-related query setting to the DNS resolver used for that lookup. Depending on your selection, this may be Google Public DNS, Cloudflare, or a custom resolver endpoint that you provide. The resolver also receives the normal technical information needed to answer an internet request, such as your IP address.

The App does not operate its own server for DNS queries and does not send your lookup history to a developer-operated server. Each resolver handles requests under its own privacy policy. If you select a custom resolver, you are responsible for reviewing that provider’s privacy practices.

Information stored on your device

The App stores the following information locally in its private app storage to provide its features:

  • Recent lookup entries: the domain or IP address, selected record type, and lookup time (up to 50 entries);
  • Favorites that you choose to save;
  • Your settings, including resolver selection, custom resolver address, and dark-mode preference; and
  • A count used to schedule interstitial ad displays.

You can clear recent lookups from the App’s History screen and remove favorites individually. You can remove all locally stored App data through your Android device’s app-storage settings or by uninstalling the App. Depending on your Android device and backup settings, locally stored App data may be included in an Android system backup.

Information we do not ask you to provide

The App does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, photos, files, microphone, or camera access. The App does not request those Android permissions.

Advertising

The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display banner and interstitial advertisements. Google may automatically collect and process information such as IP address (which may be used to estimate general location), advertising and app-set identifiers, app and ad interaction information, and diagnostic information. Google uses this information for advertising, ad measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention, and may serve personalized ads where permitted by law and applicable consent choices.

Google’s handling of information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You may be able to manage advertising identifiers and ad-personalization preferences through your Android device settings and Google’s My Ad Center. Available choices vary by device, region, and Google account settings.

When Information Is Shared

Information is shared only as needed to provide the App’s features:

  • DNS lookup information is sent to the selected DNS resolver so it can return the requested records.
  • Information processed by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is handled by Google and its advertising partners as described above.
  • If you choose Share in the App, the lookup result is passed to the app or service you select through Android’s sharing feature. That recipient’s privacy policy then applies.

We do not sell your DNS lookup history or favorites, and we do not maintain a developer-operated database of them.

Security

The built-in Google and Cloudflare resolver options use HTTPS. A custom resolver’s security depends on the address you enter; use a trusted HTTPS endpoint whenever possible. No method of internet transmission or device storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

Locally stored recent lookups, favorites, and settings remain on your device until you remove them, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App. DNS resolvers and Google may retain information they receive according to their own policies and legal obligations.

Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age at which parental consent is required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a third-party service used by the App, please contact that service directly and contact us so we can review the concern.

Your Privacy Choices and Rights

You may choose which supported DNS resolver to use, remove local App data as described above, and decide whether to share a result. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or information about personal data handled by a third party. Requests concerning data processed by Google Ads or a DNS resolver should generally be directed to that provider. You may contact us with questions about the App’s data practices.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App or its data practices change. We will post the updated policy here and revise the “Last updated” date above. Please review this page periodically.
